Back to Renovation ReviewsKelly Rossum Renovation Trumpeter, composer and arranger Kelly Rossum is a leader and session player who is rapidly garnering favor among musicians and fans alike in the Twin Cities. A true disciple of eclecticism, as well as a fluent jazzman, Rossum is unswayed by those who would pigeon hole him as a hard bopper, avant-guardist, or funkster. In fact he displays the traits of many of those styles and a good deal more. Renovation, (612 Sides) is a self-described musical dialogue that will surely evoke dialogues of the verbal kind amongst those in the know even if it fails to propel him into the national arena. Not your workaday standard studio knock-off, Renovation is a chance for Rossum to flex his compositional verve, as well the musicianship from himself and fine sidemen like Chris Thomson, Chris Lomheim, Micheal O’Brien and JT Bates. Covers anyone? How about Jimi Hendrix and Ornette Coleman? Renovation is a welcome sabbatical from the tedium of the norm. Gallery Grooves Sponsored by the Rake and Jazz 88 FM Read Next Review |
