Back to Renovation Reviews Kelly Rossum Renovation &#Renovation, the new CD by the Kelly Rossum Quintet, showcases the considerable talent and range of this young group. TCJS Board Member Kelly Rossum (trumpet) and Chris Thomson (tenor) lead the group on an excursion of the different avenues modern jazz has taken, from bebop to hard funk, from lyrical ballads to free jazz. The horns are backed by the well-oiled rhythm section of Chris Lomheim on piano, Michael O’Brien on bass, and J.T. Bates on drums. The talents of these five musicians show forth in their tight ensemble playing, and through engaging solos in the wide-range of modern styles. For a great tour of the varied directions jazz has taken in the past few years, Renovation is excellent listening.
