February 25 “The Edge” Performance Series featured the daring women of Three Dances - Brinsley Davis, Jamey Garner Leonard, and Suzanne Wiltgen. Phoebe, choreographed by Suzanne Wiltgen with music composed by Kelly Rossum, will be among the pieces performed.
February 26 Kelly Rossum and MacPhail Center for Music hosted a trumpet masterclass by Manny Laureano, principal trumpet of the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra.
March 1 Kelly presented a guest lecture on the realities and business of being a professional musician at the University of Minnesota School of Music.
March 10 Kelly Rossum performed with Pete Whitman’s Departure Point in Eagan, MN.
March 12 Kelly presented a master class for the Arts Alive festival in Faribault, MN,
at Shattuck-St. Mary’s School.
March 15 The Jazz is NOW! Orchestra with special guest, Wessell “Warmdaddy” Anderson from the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and the Wynton Marsalis Quintet, performed at the Illusion Theatre. Kelly Rossum’s new composition “Challenger Deep,” commissioned by Jazz Is Now! premiered.

March 31 Kelly performed with Pete Whitman’s X-Tet at the Artists’ Quarter
April 1 Kelly Rossum announced his candidacy for the office of President of the Minnesota chapter of IAJE. (International Association for Jazz Education)
April 1 Electropolis performed at the Uptown
April 3 MacPhail’s “Trash Jazz” performed at the Dakota
April 5 George Cartwright and his GloryLand PonyCat (George Cartwright, sax; Adam Linz, bass; Alden Ikeda, dums) along with the Kelly Rossum Quartet (Kelly Rossum, trumpet; Chris Thomson, sax; Michael O’Brien, bass; J.T. Bates, drums) shared the stage for a night of creative music at the Acadia Café.
April 7 Kelly Rossum and Chris Thomson experimented with new improvisations and aural environments at the Acadia Café. The second set of the evening featured the sax/ piano duo of Pat Moriarty and Ellen Lease.
April 8 - 9 International Association of Jazz Educator’s regional conference was in Chicago, Illinois.
Kelly presented a clinic “Free Jazz and the Young Jazz Combos”
April 15 - 16 Two performances dedicated to the music of Ornette Coleman at the Artist’s Quarter in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. True to the original quartet, the instrumentation was: alto saxophone- Pat Moriarty (Pete Whitman will play the first set on Friday); trumpet- Kelly Rossum; bass- Tom Lewis; drums- Phil Hey.
April 21 - 22 Northern Michigan Jazz Festival featuring Steve Turre. Kelly Rossum adjudicated and presented a “Free Jazz” clinic for all festival participants. Kelly performed as a featured soloist at the Thursday night concert with an all-star faculty line up.
April 28 Jazz Is Now! Orchestra performed at the Dakota with guest saxophonist Ted Nash. The ensemble premiered a new commission written by Ted Nash as well as a new commission by Kelly Rossum entitled “Line.”
May 20 Kelly Rossum spoke at the Oscher Life Long Learning Institute’s Jazz Appreciation special interest group. He discussed the role of trumpet in jazz with specific concentration on Miles Davis.
May 21 Electropolis performed at the Cedar with Bill Mike. The first 100 people in the door received a limited edition CD featuring an Electropolis remix by El Peludo.
May 27 – 29 Eat It Festival - Eat It is a creative collaboration of the Longest Lunch Theater Company and independent artists from across the country. Eat It is proud to present the Minneapolis-based dance troupe Three Dances in A Big Mistake. The performance featured eight short, character-driven pieces and collaborations with jazz musician Kelly Rossum, composer Steven Jobe, and punk fashion designer Saira Huff. Kelly Rossum’s composition / collaboration “Pheobe” was performed. Located at the Red Room, 3rd floor, 85 East 4th Street, New York, NY.
June 11 Leigh Kamman’s “The Jazz Image” on Minnesota Public Radio featured a live interview with Kelly Rossum regarding his performance at the Hot Summer Jazz Festival.
June 15 MacPhail Center for Music’s Jazz Education Center presented an evening of music at the Lake Harriet Band shell. MacPhail’s Faculty Quintet and the student ensemble Trash Jazz performed among other groups.
June 17 Electropolis performed at Acadia Café
June 18 The Kelly Rossum Quartet was featured at this year’s Twin Cities Hot Summer Jazz Festival! They performed in St. Paul at the Mears Park stage (6th & Sibley Streets) from 3:00pm – 4:00pm.

June 21 - 24 Kelly Rossum presented a Clinic: “Free Jazz and the Trumpet” at the
2005 INTERNATIONAL TRUMPET GUILD® CONFERENCE in Bangkok, Thailand.
Kelly also hosted an international Jam session on Thursday night at the Grand Hotel.
June 25 - 26 MacPhail Center for Music hosted a stage at the Twin Cities Hot Summer Jazz Festival The stage was located in Downtown Minneapolis, on Nicollet Mall between 12th & 13th Streets.
July 11 MacPhail Faculty Jazz Quartet performed at a private function
July 11 - 15 MacPhail Jazz Camp; This camp can help you improve your improvisational skills while working with others in small jazz combos. The program is designed for students between grades 7 and 12. Call MacPhail student services to register: 612-321-0100. The coaches for this year’s camp were: Kelly Rossum, brass; Greg Keel, woodwinds; Greg Theisen, piano; Chris Olson, guitar; Tom Pieper, bass; and Steve Roehm, percussion.

July 26 – 30 McNally Smith’s Summer Jazz Workshop for brass, woodwind and rhythm players. Instructors for this year’s camp included: Pete Whitman, Dave Jensen, Kathy Jensen, Chris Olson, Jeff Rinear, Kelly Rossum, David Milne, Mike Bogle, John Zimmerman, Clay Moore, Gordy Knudtson, Greg Keel, Michael Pilhofer, Terry Burns, and Jeff Bailey.

August 6 Kelly Rossum and Chris Lomheim played an evening of 'Ballads and Standards'
at the French Press Jazz Café
August 25 Nachito Herrera, Raul Pineda, (special guest bass player), Greg Keel and Kelly Rossum performed at a benefit for MacPhail Center for Music hosted by Mayor R.T. Rybak and artist Brant Kingman.
September 9 The Dakota started a new late night series dedicated to creative music. The first show featured Kelly Rossum, trumpet (Minneapolis); Bryan Nichols, piano (Chicago); and Michael O’Brien, bass (New York).
September 26 The Young and Old Lions jazz series at the Varsity Theater featured a double bill of Chris Bates' Low Blows and the Ellen Lease/ Pat Moriarty Quintet. Musicians that performed were: Chris Bates, bass; Dave Hagedorn, vibes; Dave Stanoch, drums; Pat Moriarty, alto saxophone; Ellen Lease, piano; and Kelly Rossum, trumpet.
October 11 The MacPhail Faculty jazz trio (Kelly Rossum, trumpet; Steve Roehm, vibes; TBA, bass) performed at a
private party.
October 16 Kelly participated in a relief concert to aid survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

November 1 Kelly Rossum Quartet (Kelly Rossum, trumpet; Chris Thomson, tenor; Chris Bates, bass; JT Bates, drums) performed a Free Jazz 3rd set at the Acadia Café as part of their ongoing Tuesday Night Music Series for Improvisers and Experimentation. Other musicians performing that night were:
